Owen Evans Director – Marketing and Financial Management Owen has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Economics from Massey University as well as a Diploma in Teaching. He holds a NZ Registered Teacher Certificate in Economics and Accounting. He has over 16 years teaching experience both in New Zealand and in Japan. Owen also holds the position of International Business Manager at a Christchurch high school and has organised several cultural exchange visits and study tours for overseas schools and local government offices.

Chan Chandran Director – Student Pastoral Care Chan has a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science from Lincoln University and a Diploma in Teaching. He holds a NZ Registered Teacher Certificate. Chan has 24 Years teaching experience in New Zealand and Brunei and has also worked in agricultural research in Malaysia. He was also one of the first international students in New Zealand when he completed his secondary education at Christchurch Boy’s High School.

Meredith Burrows Homestay Co-ordinator Meredith has been working in hostel management and has been a homestay host herself for many years. Her working understanding of both roles has provided her with a good understanding of needs and her friendly manner makes her a popular contact person. Her emphasis on building quality relationships with clients along with honesty and patience has allowed NZEAS to employ a staff member who brings strong administration and people skills to the company.

Mikiko Umezawa Japanese Student Counsellor Miki holds a Physical Education qualification. She has worked with young people in Japan both in schools as well as in private training establishments. Her ability to motivate and encourage all as well as help with the organisation of day to day matters has made her an invaluable helper and protector of the students. Having been an international student herself she has gained a good understanding of the needs of Japanese students in New Zealand. Her work experience has given her a good insight into the daily realities of the student and their parents. Because of this Miki communicates well with both students and their parents.

Jianming Chen Chinese Student Counsellor Jianming holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Shenyang Institute of Technology. After working in the IT industry for several years she moved to New Zealand to undertake further study at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute. Having been an English language student as well as a tertiary student in New Zealand has given Jianming a very good insight into the needs and issues for international students. Her helpful nature and her warm and mature personality for make her an invaluable support person for international students.

Grace Seo Korean Student Counsellor Grace graduated from Anyang College of Performing Arts in Korea and then worked in a television station. She holds a Diploma in English from Christchurch Polytecnic. She also studied Early Childhood Education at Hagley Community College and Christchurch Bible College. She has lived in New Zealand for 13years and has a son at primary school in Christchurch. Grace has a wide experience of education possibilities in New Zealand.
